Oban 14 Year Old Scotch Whisky

The town of Oban is a transport hub with many of the ferries for the Hebrides departing from the Oban terminal. Generally distilleries, when they are placed in an urban setting, it is due to the access to labour (people) and clean water. In the case of Oban distillery, the township actually grew up around the distillery. 

Oban distillery claims 1793 as their establishment date, and in their history they have certainly learnt how to produce an exceptional whisky.

The Oban 14 Year Old Scotch Whisky has been around for a while now, and has had a noticeable lift in quality in the last decade. The whisky is a great reflection on the fruity style Oban produce from their long fermentations. 

Tasting note from Gavin Smith: "Lightly smoky on the honeyed, floral nose. Toffee, cereal and a hint of peat. The palate offers initial cooked fruits, becoming spicier. Complex, bittersweet, oak and more gentle smoke. The finish is quite lengthy, with spicy oak, toffee and new leather"
