Arran Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Back when Harold Currie (then aged 71) founded Lochranza Distillery (aka Arran Distillery) on the Isle of Arran the whisky industry was in difficult times, with the excess supply beginning to fill the now infamous 'Whisky Loch' of the mid-to-late 90's and early 2000's. Many would be sceptical of the wisdom of building a distillery in such conditions, but Lochranza distillery has become a true success story.
After Harold Currie retired from his career with Chivas Brothers, he felt the time was right, with his sons to pursue his passion of building a distillery. Originally they were eyeing off land in the Lake's district, before a friend suggested they look closely at the Isle of Arran.
These days the distillery produces roughly 600,000 litres of new-make but has capacity to double this. The Arran Distillery is also the most visited distillery in Scotland with well over 100,000 patrons making the patronage each year.
The lineup of Arran whiskies is quite vast currently with a mix of non-age-statement (NAS) releases, among releases of a 10, 18, 21 and 25 year olds.
