Tobermory Distillery is located in the scenic and tranquil Tobermory Bay on the Isle of Mull in Scotland's inner Hebrides. The gorgeous pastel painted townhouses lining the bay could not make a more postcard pretty backdrop to a distillery that since 1798 (ignoring closures) has distilled some stunning Uisge Beatha.
The distillery was founded in 1798 and named 'Ledaig' by John Sinclair (that the distillery has in recent years named one of it's most value for money expressions after. see here.). The Ledaig name is now used to denote peated expressions produced at the distillery, Being the only distillery on a remote island setting, with challenging limitations on a water source, has seen the distillery close and change hands multiple of times in it's long history.
The distillery is now owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, which is a subsidiary of Distell Group Limited.
Tobermory Whisky has a large and loyal fan base, who recognise it's distinct fruity yet earthy style as something unique.
