Miyagikyo Japanese Single Malt
Established in 1969 in the lush valley of Miyagi prefecture, Miyagikyo was designed by Masataka Taketsuru as a delicate counterpoint to the robust style of Yoichi. Distilled in steam-heated pot stills from lightly peated and unpeated barley, this no-age-statement expression, released in 2016, highlights the distillery’s elegant, fruity house style with Sherry cask depth.
Tasting Note:
A rich nose of exotic fruits, malted barley and layered with subtle liquorice and wood smoke, before soft floral and beeswax notes emerge. The palate is lively yet refined, balancing barley sweetness with spice, chocolate, herbs, and hints of coconut and fresh tobacco. The long finish reveals tangy citrus, fine tannins, tobacco, toasted nuts, stewed fruits, and lingering touches of lychee.
