There is probably no other name in the world of Scotch Whisky that comes close to the Macallan for recognition and reputation. Founded in 1824 the Macallan distillery was one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland and this long history has helped make the Macallan arguably the most famous Scotch distillery in the world. Scotch Whisky releases from the Macallan are sought after globally by both drinkers of fine whisky, and collectors alike.
The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old is a perfectly balanced single malt whisky created by bringing the perfect harmony of two oaks into one exceptional single malt whisky. Sherry seasoned American oak adds delicate vanilla to the subtle spice of European oak, delivering a whisky with a sweeter, warmer taste, and character. The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old has a rich amber honey tone, and imparts notes of dried fruits, ginger and toffee. A warm oak spice finish is balanced by citrus flavours of sweet orange.
The Macallan brings American oak to Spain, where the casks are crafted by hand and filled with dry Oloroso sherry. Once seasoned, the casks are shipped to the Speyside distillery and filled with ‘new make’ spirit. Following 18 years of slumber, the Whisky Mastery Team selects the perfect balance of spirit from both casks to create a unique single malt with a sweet, warm character. The amber honey colour is 100% natural and comes from our exceptional oak casks.
To taste expect a complex and smooth whisky with hints of rich raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus. The finish is warm with oak spice and ginger, turning to sweet orange.
