Introducing Mac-Talla Amarone – Our Third Fèis Ìle Limited Edition Release
From Italy to Islay: A Journey of Bold Flavour
Mac-Talla Amarone is, the third limited edition release in our annual celebration of Islay’s world-famous whisky festival. Bottled specially for Fèis Ìle 2025, this release brings together the rugged soul of Islay peat and the decadent depth of Italian wine, creating a whisky experience like no other.
A Marriage of Smoke and Silk
Crafted with care and precision, Mac-Talla Amarone begins life as a bold Islay single malt, before being finished for 18 months in a marriage of two exceptional casks:
-
One first-fill Amarone butt
-
One refill European oak butt
After the initial maturation, the whisky was returned to Amarone casks for an additional 6 months of finishing – a process that has amplified its rich, complex character.
The result? A dram that’s bursting with stone fruits and dark chocolate, perfectly balanced by a long, warming peat finish.
At 54.3% ABV, this whisky is powerful yet elegant – a bold union of two distinctive terroirs: the peaty shores of Islay and the sun-drenched hills of Valpolicella.
What is Amarone?
For those new to Amarone della Valpolicella – it’s one of Italy’s most prestigious wines, made using the ancient appassimento method. Grapes are slowly air-dried before fermentation, concentrating their sugars and flavours. The resulting wine is luxurious, velvety, and packed with notes of dried cherry, chocolate, and spice – the perfect partner to Islay’s smoky, maritime spirit.
The Mac Talla 'Amarone' Limited Edition Whisky was a small batch release of 928 bottles launched for Fèis Ìle 2025. We are extremely fortunate to have a very small allocation here in Australia.
