Put the phone down and find a comfortable chair. Gold Batch 008 invites a little patience, offering layers of fruit, chocolate and spice that gradually reveal themselves in the glass.

It spent four years in third-fill port casks, followed by two further years in a port-seasoned STR cask. Bottled at 56.8%, it combines concentrated flavour with a silky texture, moving from initial dryness into pronounced cherry sweetness.

Nose: Chocolate, raisins and marzipan unfold alongside dark cherries, toasted fruitcake, autumnal leaves and orchard-fruit skins.

Palate: Velvety and warming, with cherries leading into marmalade, ginger and caramel. Toasted honey notes, chilli jam and grape sweetness add further layers.

Finish: Extended warmth, with citrus peel, dried grapes and cherries giving way to creamy pastry and dark chocolate.

How to enjoy

Allow time in the glass before exploring it neat. Then add a few drops of water to bring the fruit further forward. Leave room for a little discovery.
