The Highland Park Mjolner 14 year old single malt scotch whisky was released exclusively for the Australian market from casks hand selected for the 'Mjolner' restaurant and bar (venues in Melbourne and Sydney). The casks selected were a mix of first-fill Sherry seasoned European Oak casks, first-fill and refill Sherry seasoned American Oak casks producing only 1731 bottles at 56.6% ABV.
With the heavy ex-sherry cask influence expect raisins and stewed figs with the tell-tale delicate Highland Park peat smoke alongside charred pineapple and salted butter, tofee and pear fruits. The finish is delicately smoked with toasted oak, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Highland Park distillery is found in the town of Kirkwall in the northern isle of Orkney. In times past this small island became the home for invaders from Norway; Vikings. Highland Park embrace this part of their history. They state: "Every drop of our whisky is a tribute to our ancestors - especially our 12 Year Old. Predominantly aged in sherry seasoned European and American oak casks, our 12 Year Old boasts warm wintery spices that are engulfed in waves of smoky honey, fruitcake and heather."
