Finn Thomson Whisky Glen Turret 2011 Sherry Cask 15 Year Old
Single Cask | Cask Strength | 53.2% ABV
A remarkable single cask release from Scotland's oldest working distillery, selected by Finn Thomson Whisky to showcase the character of peated Glenturret alongside the extraordinary influence of a Ximénez-Spínola cask.
Distilled on 26 January 2011 and bottled on 23 February 2026, this 15 Year Old single malt spent its final maturation in a cask sourced from Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola, a renowned boutique producer in Jerez celebrated for rich Pedro Ximénez wines and exceptional cask quality. The result is a whisky of depth, complexity and balance, where rich sherried sweetness meets the elegant peat character that once defined a small but treasured part of Glenturret's production.
This release is especially significant as it showcases Glenturret's peated spirit, a style that the distillery announced would cease production in 2025, making bottlings such as this increasingly rare.
Bottled at natural cask strength, without chill filtration or added colouring, this is an authentic expression of both distillery and cask.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark raisins, dried figs and dates lead the way, followed by treacle, cocoa powder and toasted oak. Underneath sits a gentle waft of wood smoke and charcoal embers.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied with PX sweetness, dark chocolate, Christmas cake, molasses and roasted coffee beans. The peat emerges gradually, bringing subtle BBQ smoke and savoury depth without overpowering the fruit.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering dried fruits, spice, dark cocoa and a refined smoky character.
The Story Behind The Cask
"There is a certain symmetry in Scotland's oldest whisky family selecting a cask from Scotland's oldest working distillery."
Finn Thomson worked closely with Glenturret during the distillery's relaunch in 2020 and became a strong advocate for the distillery's peated spirit style. This cask was selected not only for its quality, but also for its ability to highlight a style of Glenturret that is now part of the distillery's history. The rich influence of the Ximénez-Spínola cask adds layers of sweetness and texture while allowing the distinctive peated spirit to shine through.
