Benrinnes 15 Year Old (2004) - Old Particular by Douglas Laing
Douglas Laing's Old Particular range of Scotch Whiskies are a particularly unique series of individually hand-selected, aged Single Cask Single Malts and Single Grains from all over Scotland. Each is bottled exactly the way the Distiller intended: without colouring or chill-filtration, and at high alcohol strength. This combination allows the cask to retain the naturally present oils, fats and enzymes in the spirit that enhance the quality of the nose, the mouthfeel and flavour profile of the Whisky. Keeping the spirit “as natural as it gets” allows you to experience the Whisky straight from the cask, transporting you to a dark, damp Distillery warehouse with every sip.
Benrinnes distillery in the Speyside region is part of the Diageo stable and pre-2007 distillations (when they moved to a straight double distillation) tend to be heavier malts with a touch of vegetative character. This single cask bottling was matured for 15 years in a refill hogshead and is however more on the fruity spectrum.
From the bottler: "Opens sweetly, with...spices later, plus sugary coffee. Carries a warming cough drop style with loads of spice and late Malt" (FHL)
700mL, 48.4% VOL. From a single cask of only 328 bottles.
